City to clamp down on illegal
off-road activities in the BCA |
21 July 2011 |
|
The City of Cape
Town’s
conservation and
law enforcement
officers in the
Blaauwberg area
will be clamping
down on
individuals
illegally
entering and
using the
Blaauwberg
Conservation
Area (BCA) for
quad-biking and
other off-road
activities. |
|
A number of the
BCA’s management
tracks have been
badly eroded due
to the
indiscriminate
use by off-road
enthusiasts.
They access the
BCA over
weekends and
after hours with
their quad
bikes,
motorcycles and
off-road
vehicles for
recreation
purposes. This
has caused a
number of tracks
to become eroded
and a network of
smaller tracks
being created
that has
resulted in
damage to
sensitive
vegetation and
ecosystems and
impacted on
archaeological
sites. |
